Austin Foreclosures

Attorney General Abbott Calls for a Halt on Foreclosures While Loan Services Review Their Business Practices

Abbott calls for thorough review to determine if "robosigners" were used in foreclosure paperwork processing

AUSTIN -- The Texas Attorney General's office has called for a halt on all foreclosures, all sales of properties previously foreclosed upon and all evictions of persons residing in previously foreclosed upon properties, until companies have completed a review of their processes, including whether employees or agents "robosigned” affidavits and other documents which were recorded in the State of Texas. The suspension notices were sent to 30 loan servicers doing business in Texas in an effort to determine the full harm Texas homeowners may have suffered or could suffer as a result of these business practices.

Below is a list of the mortgage companies affected and sample demand letter:

According to Texas Association of REALTORS, "the demand letter should have no effect on Texas REALTORS liability for individual transactions."

We can't know what the banks will do with this information. Some had already halted foreclosures and still others are rumored to plan to ignore the AG's request.

We'll keep you informed as we know more about the foreclosures in the state of Texas.

Certified Austin Tourguide!

JUDY ALLOWAY becomes a CERTIFIED AUSTIN TOUR GUIDE

That's right, it's official. After attending weeks of classes on Austin history and culture, I received my certification and am now approved by the Austin Tour Guide Association (ATGA) to provide Austin overview tours. In other words, I can officially be a "show off" and show all the fun things about Austin, Texas to visitors, friends and future Austinites. I even have a cool new name tag.

I specialize in providing tours to those clients who are not just visiting Austin but are considering moving to Austin. So this is more than just showing them the Capitol, 6th Street, O. Henry's abode and the Driskill Hotel. It's more than just showing them the best place to eat BBQ and listen to music (Stubbs) and the best place to "people watch" on 6th Street (Maggie Mae's rooftop deck). I include what is very important to that client - where they might live if they move here.

This is a great asset to you and I hope you will keep this in mind when you have someone who needs to learn more about the Austin area. As always, I'm here to help!

Economists predict up 40,000 jobs in 2 years

Thought you might enjoy what these people have to say about future job growth in Austin.
Economist don’t all agree on the number of jobs but Angelos Angelou, Ed Friedman and Jon Hockenyos all agree that Austin will see a rise in our job growth in 2010 and beyond.

Here’s a breakdown from articles and presentations from the last few weeks:
  • Angelos Angelou says “buoyed by continued population growth, the Austin metro area will add more than 26,000 jobs over the next two years”.Ed Friedman, a director at Moody’s
  • Economu.com who covers the Texas economy predicts a job recovery in Austin with 17,000 new jobs in 2010 and 24,000 in 2011.
  • Jon Hockenyos, president of an Austin consulting firm is much more cautious. He predicts that the job market will be relatively flat in 2010 and “modestly positive in 2011”.
I personally suspect it will be somewhere in between the extremes. But, any way you slice it, its good news for Austin!
Hope you find this information helpful!

Mid Year Relcocation Stats

WESTERN STATES MAINTAIN GROWTH WHILE THE GREAT LAKES REGION CONTINUES OUTBOUND MOVING TRENDS, ACCORDING TO UNITED VAN LINES 2009 MID-YEAR MIGRATION STUDY

ST. LOUIS – For those on the move in 2009, the Western region has maintained its position as a popular destination, while many states in the Great Lakes region continue outbound moving trends. The findings are among the results of the United Van Lines 2009 mid-year migration study, which tracks where its customers moved from and their most popular destinations.

United has tracked shipment patterns annually on a state-by-state basis since 1977. The findings are based on 60,520 interstate household moves handled by United among the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., from January through June 2009. United classifies the states as “high inbound” (55% or more of moves going into a state), “high outbound” (55% or more of moves going out of a state) or “balanced.”

Three out of the top five high-outbound states were located in the Great Lakes region. Michigan (70.0%) maintained its status as the top outbound state, up more than 2.0 percentage points since January 2009. Illinois (58.3%) came in third and maintained its position as an outbound state since 1977, while Indiana (57.2%) ranked fourth and continued its 15-year trend.

The District of Columbia (63.8%) maintained its position as the most popular inbound destination, up 1.5 percentage points in the past six months, and a clear winner ahead of Oregon (59.3%), which has experienced high-inbound migration for 21 consecutive years. Other high-inbound Western states included Nevada (57.7%) capturing fourth place and Wyoming (57.5%) coming in as the fifth highest inbound state.
